A railway station is a busy and crowded place where trains stop to carry passengers and goods from one place to another. Almost every town has a railway station, and it becomes lively throughout the day. The station building usually has a booking counter where people buy tickets, and a waiting room for passengers. Outside the station there are tea stalls, fruit shops and bookstalls selling snacks to tired travellers. When a train arrives, the whole station becomes full of noise and movement. Porters run here and there carrying heavy luggage, and hawkers shout loudly to sell their goods. Passengers hurry to find their correct compartment, and children hold the hands of their parents to avoid getting lost in the crowd. The guard blows his whistle and the train starts moving, while the people who have missed it run after it in vain. Announcements also come from loudspeakers to guide the passengers. A railway station is truly a mirror of the life of common people, because people of every age and class can be seen there. Some people come to receive their relatives, while others come only to see the trains pass by. Though the place is always noisy and crowded, it is also very interesting to watch. I love to watch the big trains arrive and depart, and every visit to a railway station stays fresh in my memory.
