Communication means the exchange of thoughts, feelings and information between people. It is the most important part of our daily life, because without communication we cannot live together in society. We communicate in many ways. We talk with our family and friends, we write letters and messages, and we use the telephone and the mobile phone. Even our smile, our eyes and the movement of our hands communicate something. Good communication keeps peace in the family, because when we share our feelings with others, our problems become small. Communication is also necessary in school, in the market, in the office and in the hospital. A doctor cannot treat a patient without listening to him, and a teacher cannot teach without explaining. With the invention of the mobile phone and the internet, the world has become small, and we can talk with a person thousands of miles away in a moment. But we should remember that good communication means speaking politely and listening carefully. So we all should learn to communicate well.

Communication is the process of exchanging information, ideas, thoughts and feelings between two or more persons. It is the foundation of human civilization, because from the beginning of history people have communicated with one another through signs, sounds, pictures and language. In our daily life, communication is essential in every sphere. In the family, members share their joys, sorrows and problems with one another, and this mutual exchange keeps the family united and happy. In the classroom, a teacher communicates knowledge to the students, and the students express their doubts and answers. In business, communication between buyers and sellers, employers and employees, and producers and consumers keeps the market running. In administration, the government and the people communicate through laws, circulars and the media. Even in a hospital, the doctor and the patient must communicate clearly so that the right treatment can be given. Communication can be verbal, through spoken words, or non-verbal, through gestures, facial expressions and body language. It can be direct, face to face, or indirect, through letters, telephones, television, radio and the internet. In modern times, the mobile phone and the internet have brought a revolution in communication. Today a message written in Dhaka reaches New York within a second, and video calls have brought distant people face to face. But for communication to be effective, it must be clear, honest and polite. Misunderstanding arises when we do not listen carefully or when we speak rudely. So we should practise good listening, speak with respect and choose our words with care. In short, communication is the lifeblood of society, and the progress of a nation depends on how well its people can communicate with one another.
