A Conversation Between Two Friends About Business

Sabbir: Rashid, I heard that your elder brother has started a new business. Is that true?

Rashid: Yes, Sabbir. He has opened a small grocery shop near our village market.

Sabbir: How is the business going?

Rashid: Quite well, actually. The shop is small, but many villagers buy their daily goods from it.

Sabbir: What does he sell?

Rashid: Rice, oil, sugar, salt, biscuits, and other daily necessities.

Sabbir: Is business a good profession for our country?

Rashid: Certainly. Business creates jobs, supplies goods, and develops the economy of the nation.

Sabbir: But some businessmen cheat customers. Don’t they harm the country?

Rashid: Dishonest businessmen do harm, but honest business is the backbone of trade. My brother never sells anything at a false weight.

Sabbir: That is why the villagers trust him, I suppose.

Rashid: Exactly. Honesty is the first condition of a successful business.

Sabbir: What qualities does a good businessman need?

Rashid: Hard work, honesty, patience, and the skill of dealing with people.

Sabbir: Do you also want to be a businessman in the future?

Rashid: Yes. I want to study commerce and later expand my brother’s small shop into a big business.

Sabbir: That is a noble dream. A big business can employ many people.

Rashid: That is my aim. I want to create jobs for the unemployed youth of our village.
