Short Paragraph on Rabindranath Tagore

Rabindranath Tagore was the greatest poet of Bengal and one of the greatest writers of the world. He was born on 7 May 1861 at Jorasanko in Kolkata, in a rich and cultured family. His father’s name was Debendranath Tagore, and his mother’s name was Sarada Devi. Rabindranath did not like formal school education, and he learnt many things at home with the help of private teachers. He started writing poems at a very early age. He wrote poems, songs, dramas, novels, short stories and essays. His most famous work is Gitanjali, a book of poems, for which he won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1913. He was the first Asian to receive this prize. He wrote the national anthems of two countries: Amar Shonar Bangla for Bangladesh and Jana Gana Mana for India. He also founded a famous university at Santiniketan called Visva-Bharati. Rabindranath Tagore died on 7 August 1941, but his songs and poems will remain alive forever.

Rabindranath Tagore, the greatest poet of the Bengali language, is one of the most remarkable figures in the history of world literature. He was born on 7 May 1861 in the famous Tagore family of Jorasanko, Kolkata. His father Debendranath Tagore was a great philosopher, and his mother Sarada Devi was a gentle and loving lady. Rabindranath was the fourteenth child of his parents. He had little interest in formal schooling, and his real education took place at home under private tutors and amid the rich literary atmosphere of his family. He began to compose poems when he was only a child, and his first poem was published when he was barely a teenager. Rabindranath was a genius of many gifts; he was a poet, novelist, dramatist, short story writer, essayist, philosopher, painter and composer. His works, such as Gitanjali, Gora, Chokher Bali, Shesher Kobita and the dramas Dakghar and Raktakarabi, are treasures of Bengali literature. In 1913 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for his book of poems Gitanjali, and he was the first Asian to receive this honour. He is also the composer of the national anthems of both Bangladesh and India. He established the famous Visva-Bharati University at Santiniketan, where students from all over the world came to learn. He used his writings to inspire the people of Bengal during the freedom movement, and his songs, especially Amar Shonar Bangla and Ekla Chalo Re, gave courage to the nation. This great poet and philosopher passed away on 7 August 1941. Even today, Tagore’s poems and songs touch the hearts of millions of people, and he will always be remembered as the greatest son of Bengal.
