The tiger is the largest member of the cat family and one of the most beautiful animals in the world. It has a golden body with black stripes, strong legs and sharp claws. The tiger is called the king of the forest because no other animal can defeat it. It eats deer, wild pigs and other animals, so it is a carnivorous animal. The tiger was once found in large numbers in India, but today it is in great danger. People cut down forests and hunt tigers for their beautiful skin, so the number of tigers is falling day by day. If tigers disappear from the forest, the number of deer and other animals will increase and harm the balance of nature. That is why the government has started the Save Tiger project to protect them. National parks and sanctuaries have been made where tigers can live safely, and hunting is strictly forbidden. We all should take part in saving the tiger because it is the pride of our country and a part of our natural wealth.

With its bright orange-golden body, black stripes, powerful jaws and sharp claws, the tiger is the undisputed king of the Indian jungle. It is a carnivore and hunts deer, wild boar and other herbivores, and in this way it keeps the balance of nature. However, the existence of this royal animal is now under serious threat. The main causes are the destruction of forests, the shortage of prey and, above all, illegal poaching for the skin, bones and other parts of the tiger, which are sold at very high prices. A century ago there were about one lakh tigers in India, but now only a few thousand remain. The tiger is not only a beautiful animal; it is also a symbol of our forests’ health. If the tiger disappears, the whole ecosystem will be damaged, because the tiger is a top predator. Realising this danger, the government launched Project Tiger in 1973 and set up many national parks and tiger reserves where the animals are protected by forest guards. Strict laws have been made against poaching, and people are being made aware of the importance of the tiger. Still, much more needs to be done. We should plant trees, stop buying tiger products and report poachers. We must remember that saving the tiger means saving our forests, and saving our forests means saving our future.
