Short Paragraph on Corruption in Bangladesh

Corruption is the misuse of power or money for personal gain. It is one of the biggest problems of Bangladesh. Corruption takes place in many ways. Some dishonest officials take bribes from people before doing their work. People have to give extra money to get a certificate, an admission or a government service. Some leaders steal government money that is meant for roads, schools and hospitals. Even in our daily life we see corruption, such as selling examination questions, giving false certificates and taking money in the name of jobs. Corruption harms our country in many ways. It makes poor people suffer, slows down development and pushes honest people into trouble. Because of corruption, the money that should build roads and schools goes into the pockets of a few greedy people. We must stop corruption to build a good nation. Everyone should refuse to give or take bribes, and the government should punish dishonest people strictly. Students should learn to be honest from childhood, because they are the future of the country. If everyone becomes honest, corruption will slowly disappear and Bangladesh will become a happy and prosperous nation.

It is like a disease that has spread into almost every part of our society, and it eats into the very roots of our development. Corruption takes many forms. The most common is bribery, where dishonest officials demand extra money before doing the work that people are legally entitled to. A poor man cannot get a birth certificate, a driving licence or a government file cleared without paying money under the table. Corruption also exists in business, where false weights, fake products and smuggled goods cheat innocent customers. In politics, some leaders misappropriate the money that is allocated for roads, schools, hospitals and relief, and as a result the poor remain poor and the country’s development is delayed. In education, we hear of leaked question papers and fake certificates, which destroy the fairness of our examination system. Even in sports and public offices, dishonest people are found everywhere. The effects of corruption are devastating. It makes the rich richer and the poor poorer, it breaks the trust of the people in the government, and it drives away foreign investment. It also encourages dishonesty among the young, because they see that dishonest people become rich quickly while honest people struggle. Therefore, we must fight against corruption with firm determination. Strict laws should be made and properly enforced so that corrupt people are severely punished. The people who give bribes should also be punished, because corruption needs both hands to survive. Above all, we need moral education, because honesty is the best policy. Teachers, parents and religious leaders should teach the young generation to be truthful and honest. The media should expose corruption boldly, and every citizen should refuse to give or take bribes. Corruption cannot be removed overnight, but if every honest citizen works together, we can reduce it greatly. A corruption-free Bangladesh is not a dream; it is a duty, and we must all work for it.
